Christmas at Hogwarts - Reading Comprehensions
Included are three reading comprehensions based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, specifically, Harry’s first Christmas at Hogwarts. The comprehensions are differentiated: Part 1 - accessible, Part 2 - challenging, Part 3 - extension. Students are required to answer a series of questions in a similar style to KS2 Reading SATs. An answer guide is also provided.

A Christmas Carol - SPaG Activities
Included is a PowerPoint with 10 SPaG activities. There is also a word document which features printable and editable resources to aid use in the classroom. Notes on PP are also included. All activities are linked to Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Coverage includes: Word Classes, Punctuation, Sentence Function, Vocabulary etc.

Introduce your class to a range of classic children’s literature with these skim and scan activities. Designed to improve quick recall and retrieval skills, children must locate words - like a literary word search! Included here are poems, fairy stories and extracts from classic children’s fiction such as Tom Sawyer, The Wizard of Oz, Through the Looking Glass & many more. My class really enjoy using a timer to try and improve their speed.

Visual VIPERS - Reading with Images
Included here are 40 activities linked to the VIPERS method of reading. Activities are therefore arranged in order: Vocabulary, Inference, Prediction, Explain, Retrieve, and Summarise. A range of different images are used including illustrations, book covers, film posters, famous art works, and landscapes. These could be used in whole class guided reading or as independent activities if printed out.

Creative Writing: How to write a poem
This activity booklet supports writing a descriptive poem in just SIX steps. Images are included as well as a word bank to support children who may need it.
All steps are modelled and students follow the format to produce their own poem. Could be used in class, as homework, or for home schooling. Suitable for KS2+.
Shakespeare Speaking and Listening Activities

Included here are a selection of Harry Potter themed proof-reading activities:
Correct the tweet – children must edit for spelling, punctuation, sentence structure and synonyms. Differentiated and include editable answer sheet
Message speech – Worksheet to aid the use of direct speech. Editable word doc included.
Hogwarts letter – correct the letter from Professor McGonagall. Editable word doc included.
A Christmas Carol - Creative Writing Booklet
This booklet involves ten steps from building a word bank to editing, using a description from A Christmas Carol as a model. This could work as an independent activity, whole class, homework booklet or home learning. Students work through different steps allowing them to think about atmosphere, effect on the reader, vocabulary, figurative language and sentence structure. Alongside the Dickens model are other examples for inspiration. An opportunity for peer review is also included.
Reading Activities - Movie Posters
This resource uses movie posters from a range of children and family films to engage with reading objectives. There is a focus on inference and prediction, encouraging children to use evidence to support their arguments. The included PowerPoint features questions that could be used for a whole class guided reading session, or one slide per day as part of an English lesson starter. The pdf features thumbnails of each poster as well as larger sized images for children to have a closer look and/or use to record their observations. Additionally, I have included a word document with ideas for further learning and activities.
This could also be used as part of cross curricula work on the history theme, Leisure & Entertainment, or as a Speaking & Listening lesson.
